Questions
The ones worth answering properly. Anything else: hello@homelogix.app.
Using it
How does it identify my appliance?
You photograph the data plate — the sticker or metal tag carrying the model and serial number. Text recognition runs on your phone, so the photo doesn't leave the device to make the identification. We show you the candidate models we read and you confirm which is yours. No guide is ever shown against a model you haven't confirmed.
Can't find the plate? The app tells you where it usually hides on that type of machine — inside the fridge on the left wall, on the door frame of a dryer, behind the discharge chute on a mower. You can also give us the brand and a photo, or type the model in by hand.
Why won't it scan the barcode?
It will, and it will usually fail — so it explains why rather than pretending. A UPC identifies the packaging a product was sold in, not the model inside it. Two dishwashers with different control boards can share a barcode, and a machine that's been in your kitchen nine years has no box left anyway. The data plate is the only marking that identifies what you actually own.
Where does the repair guidance come from?
Manufacturer service documentation, parts-retailer symptom indexes, and repair forums — retrieved first, then written from. The guidance is never written from an AI's recollection of how appliances generally work, and a second pass removes any step the retrieved sources don't support.
Every guide shows its tier: Verified means at least two independent sources agree, Community-corroborated means one source supports it, and General guidance means we have nothing specific to your model and are telling you so. You always see which one you're reading, and the sources are listed.
What if there's no guide for my machine?
We say so, plainly, and before anything is asked of you. You'll never be shown an ad for a repair guide that doesn't exist. You can ask us to write one — unrecognised models are ranked by how often they're requested, which is how we decide what to add next — and if you've done the repair yourself you can submit the procedure. Every submission is reviewed before it's published.
Which jobs won't it let me do?
Every job is rated green, yellow or red. Red jobs show a technician route instead of a procedure, and there's no way to unlock one: sealed refrigerant systems, gas lines and valves, microwave interiors, garage door torsion springs, breaker panels and 240V hardwiring, and TV power supply boards. Gas appliances are covered for their non-gas faults only.
Difficulty ratings describe what goes wrong if you get it wrong and what you need on hand — "needs a second person", "handling gasoline" — rather than counting screws. The reason is always shown next to the rating.
Cost
What's free?
Identification, the full diagnosis, your home's inventory, the maintenance schedule and its reminders. No account needed to get a diagnosis.
The repair procedure sits behind one short rewarded ad, which unlocks that one guide for an hour and saves it to your account for offline use. Unlocking one guide never unlocks another.
What do the paid tiers cost?
Ad-free — $3.99/month, $24.99/year, or $35 once. Removes the ads; everything else is identical.
HomeLogix Care — $99/year or $10.99/month for one property, $149/year or $14.99/month for several. Ad-free, plus 20% off a technician call-out.
That discount is our referral fee, waived. The technician is paid the same either way — we're giving up our cut rather than asking them to discount their work, and we'd rather say that than let you assume we're earning twice from one job.
Do you make money if I buy a part?
Sometimes, through affiliate links to parts retailers, and the link says so where it appears. Part suggestions come from the diagnosis, not from what pays best, and the app will tell you when a part isn't the problem — a sagging fridge door needs its hinge tightened, not a new gasket.
Technicians
How are companies chosen?
Every partner is checked before being listed: a certificate of insurance on file with its expiry recorded, business entity confirmed active and registered, and reviews checked across two independent sources. Where the trade is licensed — plumbing and heating and air, in most states — the licence number is verified against the state board and its expiry recorded. Smaller appliance and small-engine repairs often fall below the threshold at which a state requires a licence at all, so for those we lean on insurance, entity registration, and federal refrigerant certification where refrigerant is involved. Insurance and licences are re-checked, and a partner is suspended automatically if either lapses.
Results are sorted by rating, then price, then distance — never by what a company pays us. The app says so on the screen where you choose.
Is a booking confirmed straight away?
No, and we don't pretend otherwise. You pick up to three times that suit you and we send the request — with your model, the symptom and the likely fault attached — to one company at a time, not to five at once. You'll see the status change from requested to confirmed when a company has actually accepted.
What if you have no partners near me?
Then we don't offer booking there, and we tell you instead of taking a request we can't fill. Everything else works everywhere: identification, diagnosis, guides and the maintenance schedule don't depend on local coverage.
You can also suggest a company you already trust. Those suggestions are how we decide which metro to open next.
Privacy and terms
What do you collect?
The account you create with Sign in with Apple, the items you register, your maintenance history, and what you do in the app so we can tell which guides are working. Data-plate photos are processed on your device for identification.
You can request your data or delete your account from inside the app — deletion removes your account and everything attached to it.
Who's responsible if a repair goes wrong?
You are the one holding the screwdriver, and the app is guidance rather than supervision — which is exactly why red-tier jobs have no procedure to follow, why hazards are stated before the steps rather than buried at the end, and why every guide tells you how confident it is.
For technician work: HomeLogix introduces you to independent companies and does not perform, supervise or guarantee their work. Your contract for the repair is with them. We verify insurance before listing any partner, and a state licence in the trades that require one — licensing rules vary by state and trade, and some legitimate repair work is not licensed at all. We also track no-shows and remove companies that generate substantiated complaints.
